Albion Basin Family Pictures | Clements | Whitney Beth Photography
Having my baby at the end of June meant that I would be on maternity leave during the normal wildflower bloom. I know myself well enough to know that I would have fomo if I didn’t get to shoot up at Albion Basin this year. So I allowed myself to book one client for that spot – but I was going to be picky with who it was. Since I’d be newly postpartum and still recovering, as much as I love photographing young families, I knew I needed to take a client that had older kids. Less chasing and bending and moving in general. So when Amy contacted me about booking a shoot in the wildflowers with her family, I was thrilled to find that they checked the box! Her youngest would be 13 by the time the session took place. Not to mention the older three were all girls who were not only super cooperative, but also happy and eager to be there!
We had quite the time trying to schedule these photos with the wildflowers blooming so late in the season and having to plan around work, dance, trips, etc. But we made it happen! We went up on a Monday evening. I entered the canyon first to get up to flower hill before them. I was set to arrive a half hour earlier than our session. Good thing I did, because the line to get up to Albion was insane. (If you don’t know, they only have so many parking spots and won’t let you up until a car comes down.) The Clements got a late start – we had been texting back and forth. When I was about 4 cars away from getting the clear to drive it was nearly our start time. The Clements were almost to Alta, so I called them and told them to park and walk up to my car. I technically had enough seats – but four of them were occupied by car seats. I asked if they were ok with getting creative with transportation and luckily they were. By the time they were parked and loading into my car we were next up the canyon! It was cramped, but we made it work! Luckily we brought bug spray too, because the mosquitoes were SO bad this year!
Every time I go on maternity leave I wonder if I should come back and talk myself into thinking I’m not that good, no one likes my work, I don’t even need to do it, blah blah blah. And every time I have my first shoot back from maternity leave I am reminded how wrong I was. This was such a gorgeous and stunning shoot! I kept telling them that this was the perfect photoshoot to come off of maternity leave with. I loved all their photos so much and am so happy to have been the one to document them.
