Mantua Poppies One Year Olds | Wells | Whitney Beth Photography
I can hardly believe it, but my little guy Wells just turned one! To celebrate this milestone, I took him to the Box Elder campground poppy field in Mantua, Utah, for his first birthday photos. This spot has always been special, but this year there was a bit of drama in the photo world surrounding the poppies.
Early in the season, the forest service mowed down the poppy field due to the overwhelming number of visitors who weren’t being respectful. It was so sad to see! Despite this, some poppies still managed to bloom, and they had even spread to the hillside and upper field. That’s where we focused our session this year.
Photographing a one-year-old in the poppies presented its own set of challenges. Wells can’t stand on his own yet, so Dad had to give him a boost to reach the blooms. When he was sitting on the ground, the grass tickled his armpits, making him giggle. He was such a champ throughout the session! Although he was more interested in playing with a poppy that had been cut down, we managed to capture some adorable photos in the short 15 minutes we had.
The year has flown by so quickly, and I can’t believe my little Wells is already one! Watching him grow and capturing these precious moments has been so fun. Enjoy some of my favorites from our session!
