Join me on a snowy adventure up in Little Cottonwood Canyon, Utah, where I had the pleasure of photographing the Smith family on a beautiful, sunny day. The snow sparkled in the sun’s rays, creating a magical backdrop for our session.(It was extra fun being with them since Maddy is one of my little sister’s friends! They grew up together and I got to witness their friendship grow through high school.)
Taking them to one of my favorite spots, I anticipated a perfect, untouched setting. Which we got! However, we were met with a challenge – snow up to our knees! Every step was like a game of Russian Roulette on if the snow would sink below our feet. Despite this, the Smiths embraced the adventure, following in my footsteps as I led them through the snow to my “spot.”
We made the most of the snowy conditions – laughing and talking the whole way. I even threw some snow in front of my lens for a fun glitter effect. As we neared the end of our session, we backtracked towards the cars, dodging sledders, skiers, and hikers on the trail. The highlight of the shoot came as the sun began to set, casting a golden light through the pine trees. It was a breathtaking sight, and we captured some truly magical moments in that golden hour light.
Despite the off trail snow challenge, it was a day filled with adventure. The Smith family’s attitude towards it all made the shoot so fun, and I’m grateful to have been a part of their snowy photoshoot. Here’s to more magical moments in the snow!
