Provo City Center Temple Proposal | Hansen | Whitney Beth Photography
if you’ve been around here awhile you know that I don’t do weddings anymore. But that doesn’t mean I don’t love photographing proposals! This is not my first rodeo – in fact I’ve photographed all of my siblings proposals, as well as a handful of clients. Some involving me sitting in a pool equipment box, Or crouching in a bush 6 months pregnant, other times it involves me accidentally looking like I’ve been stood up at a restaurant (oops). However you slice it, I love it. So when one of our friends was talking about how he was going to propose to his girlfriend I told him if he wanted me to, I would gladly hide in a bush and photograph the event. Cory took me up on it, and lucky me, there were no bushes involved.
He had the whole thing all planned out. July, his girlfriend, (now fiance) and her daughter and son in law would be doing a session at the Provo City Center Temple. When they came out the daughter was going to lead her mom down a semi secluded path. She would be met by a line of her kids and soon to be step kids. Each handing her a flower and leading her to Cory. So perfect.
We had everything set up and ready to go. I was able to see the doors they were due to come out of from a tiny stairwell. We waited and waited for them to come out, not fully knowing when that would be. As the sun set and I kept adjusting my settings, I was started to hear my name shouted from Cory. They had come out a different exit, and it was one I couldn’t see from my spot! I flew down the stairs and was able to catch the reaction just in time as Julie rounded the corner and realization set in. It was a beautiful proposal with happy tears and hugs. She said yes! I’m so happy I was able to be there to photograph the start of this family’s new beginning.
